CONFERENCE PERIOD 11:15-12:30

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS:

Students are taught to find and understand the connections among the many challenges faced in adulthood. From learning about present and future automobiles to understanding the world of electronic finance, the material covered in this class WILL be of tremendous help as they emerge as adults.

The “hands on minds on” concept will be used to reinforce the student’s understanding of the material by building an object as a part of a group project or designing and building an individual project linked to the lesson.

Topics covered include but are not limited to:

Cars – research future cars, electronics, fuels, choosing the one that best suits the individual, calculating the cost per mile and saving thousands of dollars over a life time by negotiating the best value.

Careers-“If you love what you do then you will never work a day” is an old saying that is stressed. Students will be asked to learn as much about themselves as possible as a basis for making a career choice. Hopefully the choice will be something they love.

Biotechnology- students will be asked to research, record and communicate their findings in the ever-changing field of technology in clothing, medicine, fuels, food and etc.

Credit rating- students will have the opportunity the EXTREME importance of developing and maintaining an outstanding (high) credit rating.  Many things depend on this one aspect of their lives. Getting a job, purchasing goods, purchasing insurance are but a few examples of the value of this one thing(credit rating).

Housing, where you live and safety are additional topics covered throughout the year.

AT THE TIME OF THIS WRITING, 3D PRINTERS HAVE BEEN ORDERED AND ARE SCHEDULED TO BE SHIPPED IN A FEW DAYS. THIS WILL OPEN ALL MANNER OF OPPORTUNITIES TO LEARN AND EXPLORE THIS EXPLODING TECHNOLOGY.

GRADING:

The LKCISD grading policy will be followed.

50% tests

50% daily grades

Students will be thoroughly reviewed for each test (I call them “ckeck-ups from the neck up”).

Pop quizzes are used for the teacher’s information only to check for understanding and areas to reteach.  A POP QUIZ WILL NOT BE COUNTED FOR A GRADE.
