Inclusion support
I starrted working at Linden-Kildare High in 2012 as the Life Skills teacher. I'm currently the Inclusion Special Education teacher for grades 9-12 all subject areas. I provide support to students in the mainstream/inclusion setting. Some of my assistance is in the classroom with students and some is spent in my own classroom. This is my 4th year to be at LKHS!
I started my teaching career in Hughes Springs ISD in 3rd grade in 1984. After two years I moved to College Station and taught 5th and 6th grade Reading and Fine Arts for another 3 years. I then moved back to Linden and started my job as a Special Education teacher, teaching for Hughes Springs ISD for another 2 years as a Life Skills teacher at the elementary level. I transferred to Linden-Kildare Jr. High as their Life Skills teacher and did this for 3 years. My family moved to Tennesse in 1995. While I was there I taught 7th and 8th grade resource for 1 year. I was then asked to take a position as Special Programs Coordinator. I oversaw the homebound program, G/T program and did testing to assist the school psychologist for Cannon County Schools. Next, I taught 4th grade at Norris Elementary and then a class for autistic students at Andersonville Elementary with Anderson County Schools TN. We then moved back to Linden and I started a job teaching Life Skills at Linden Elementary. After 12 years of teaching this class, I moved to LKHS and am currently still here doing inclusion. In the 31 years that I've been teaching, I've had experience in every grade level and have loved each position. Because of the years that I've spent at every level, there's so much that I've learned as far as meeting individual students needs. Every student is different and I feel that as a teacher, my goal is to meet these individual needs.
I was born and raised in Linden and graduated from LKHS in 1979. I spent my first year in college at TJC and transferred the following summer to Texas A&M University in College Station. After 2 years I moved back to Linden and finished my Senior year at Texas A&M Texarkana. I got married in 1984 and have been with my spouse for 31 years. We have two sons, ages 27 and 23. Both of my boys graduated from LKHS. My oldest son is a manager with Red Lobster in Lufkin, TX and my youngest is a sailor with the US Navy. We welcomed our first grandchild, a girl, in February of 2014. She keeps us busy most weekends but we love every minute of it!! We built a house in the country a few years ago on land that's been in my family nearly 200 years. We have 6 dogs and 2 cats and are contemplating getting some goats and chickens so that we can have a real farm! LOL
Update!! We did add 12 hens, 1 rooster and 2 ducks to our little farm. Not sure if we can handle anything more at this time. At least I know I can’t! Farming is a tough business!! HAHA
I love to read and spend at least an hour every night with a good book. I also love to travel and have been to almost all of the states in the US and have the ones not visited on my bucket list. I love history so many of the places I've been are historical landmarks. I also love to shop for almost anything, but mainly crafts and antiques. When I'm not teaching, I like to just relax at home and spend time with family. I got my real estate license 3 years ago so much of my time away from teaching is working with people in buying or selling property. I love that I get the opportunity to meet so many people from so many places. I'm a talker too, so this profession works well for me. HAHA
